DAY 1
Bangkok by flight to Chiang Rai – Chiang Rai City tour by night

Morning Arrive at Chiang Rai airport. Meet & Welcome by Thailand Journeys tour guide and transfer to hotel for Check-in at the hotel. Free at leisure.

Evening program: CHIANG RAI CITY BY NIGHT

07:00 p.m. Meet our guide and depart from your hotel to explore the authentic side of Chiang Rai.

You will pass the King Mengrai Monument, commemorating the king who founded Chiang Rai in 1262.

Next is the Golden clock tower. Built in 2008 to honor His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej, the clock tower bears the signature style of Mr.Chalermchai Kositpipat, the artist who conceived and built the White Temple. Every evening at 08:00 p.m. and 09:00 p.m. the clock tower comes to life in a light- and-sound display. Our dedicated guide will make sure to explain to you the cultural and historical particularities of Chiang Rai, the Gateway to the mythical Golden Triangle.

Next is the fresh market and afterwards we take you to Chiang Rai Night Bazaar, the famous night market of Chiang Rai. Here you will find restaurants with a variety of local food. Try out some local food and enjoy your time walking around seeing the local products. Return to your hotel, free at leisure.

DAY 2
Chiang Rai – Doi Tung Royal Villa - Golden Triangle – Chiang Saen Old town

Your trip departs in the morning to Mae Fah Luang Garden, the beautiful botanical gardens which feature year-round flowers and enjoy the cool climate and surrounding areas. Doi Tung Royal Villa, former residence of Princess Mother Srinagarindra, is high up on the hill. The villa was originally built as a summer residence for the princess’ mother and now houses a museum displaying her work to improve the life quality of the local tribe’s people. The Mae Fah Luang Gardens are a botanical park on the slopes below the royal villa. Flowers and plants grow among rock formations.

Continue to the northern most point of Thailand. Golden Triangle where the Ruak River and the Mekong River meet forms the borders of three countries. The wonder of Golden Triangle is the visit to 3 countries: Thailand, Myanmar, and Laos, in one place. Next short visit the House of Opium Museum is a museum that tells stories of opium in the Golden Triangle. Through beautiful antiques such as opium harvesting knives, scales, weights, pipes, mats and pillows, these tools represent the beliefs, cultures, traditions, and magnificent imagination of their Burmese, Shan, Chinese and tribal inventors in Thailand as well as the history of the region where the three countries meet.

Continue to the ancient city of Chiang Sean at Wat Chedi Luang. Visit the ancient city at Wat Chedi Luang, built by the 3rd ruler of the Lanna Kingdom in the early 13th Century. This temple was constructed during the classical era of Chiang Saen. Return to your hotel.

DAY 3
Chiang Rai city - White Temple & The Black House Museum – Travel to Chiang Mai

Morning Breakfast at the hotel and check-out.

Depart from your hotel in the morning to the beautiful Wat Phra Keo where one of Thailand's most important Buddha statues was discovered in 1444. The statue had been moved by various state rulers and placed in their respective capitals, including Lampang, Chiang Rai and Vientiane, as a symbol of dominance before finally beginning enshrined in Bangkok's Wat Phra Keo during the reign of King Rama

Then visit the exhibiting ancient artefacts and written records on history, literature and indigenous intelligence as well as exhibits on royal activities by the late Princess Mother at Doi Tung.

Continue to visit Wat Rong Khun or “The white temple” is a privately owned art exhibit in the style of a Budhist Temple.  It is owned by Chiang Rai-born painter and artist Mr. Chalermchai Kositpipat, who designed, constructed, and opened it to visitors in 1997. Nowadays it has become the most famous and popular tourist attraction in Chiang Rai. Every detail of the temple and structures as the bridge of “the cycle of rebirth” and the “Gate of Heaven” carries meaning and encourages the visitor to reflect on the Buddhist teachings that show the way to escape from the worldly temptations, desires and greed and focus on the mind instead.

Next to visit Ban Dam or Black House Museum, is one of the strangest and most interesting landmarks in Northern Thailand.is a mixture of traditional northern. Mr. Thawan Duchanee was a Thai artist who was born in Chiang Rai and studied art in Bangkok and then abroad in Amsterdam. His work remains controversial in Thailand, with many locals referring to the famous White Temple as ‘heaven’ whilst the Black Temple is referred to as Hell. The artist spent over 50 years building this museum of art. The museum covers an area of about 160,000 square meters, consisting of over 40 houses and different structures scattered around the site. Each building has its own unique name. They are made of wood, glass, concrete, bricks, and terracotta with various unique styles incorporated in their design. Stop for lunch at a local restaurant before traveling to Chiang Mai.

After lunch continue travel from Chiang Rai to Chiang Mai (approximate duration of 3.5 hrs.)

DAY 4
Chiang Mai – A.M. Elephant care at Elephant Sanctuary – P.M. Temples & City tour

ELEPHANT CARE AT CHIANG MAI ELEPHANT JUNGLE SANCTUAY*JOIN-IN PROGRAM (TOUR TIMING: 06:30 - 01:30 p.m.)

A half-day package to the Elephant Jungle Sanctuary offers visitors an enjoyable opportunity to spend quality time with elephants in their natural home, as well as gain an insight into their history and behavior, and create cherished lifelong memories of their time spent with these amazing animals.

On the morning of your visit, you will be picked up from your place of accommodation and will drive for approximately 1.5 hours through scenic agricultural areas, hills, and forest, before arriving at the Sanctuary. There, you will meet your English-speaking guide and learn a little about the elephants, before changing into traditional Karen clothing. After being allocated bananas and sugar cane to feed the elephants, you will walk with your guide through the Sanctuary, where you will find free-roaming elephants and hear their individual stories. You can touch, feed, photograph, and interact with the elephants at your leisure while you learn about their lifestyle and behaviors. After you have met all the elephants, you will accompany them to a nearby mud spa. Get muddy with the elephants as you apply a healthy cosmetic mud treatment to their skin.

Next you will walk with the elephants to a nearby river and join them in the water for a refreshing bath. Take a swim and help bathe and brush the elephants while they wade through and play in the water. Once the elephants are clean, you can take some final photos with them, and then it will be time to part ways with your new friends and change into some dry clothes.

Finally eat some snacks and seasonal fresh fruit, before enjoying once again the impressive rural scenery as you drive back to Chiang Mai.

Afternoon MAI TEMPLES & CITY TOUR

Be ready at your hotel and meet our guide and depart for Chiang Mai City Tour. Chiang Mai has had a long and independent history, which has a large extent preserved of Thai culture. In addition, this ancient city can be admired through fantastic scenery along the city’s canals surrounded by historical and cultural heritage.

Visit the old temple around Chiang Mai city start from Phra Singh Temple (the most beautiful architecture in northern style reflected from the chapel), (temple with the biggest stupa) and Chiang Man Temple (the oldest temple built in the same age of Chiang Mai City).

Next visit Chiang Mai’s hidden unique temple Wat Umong or “Tunnel Temple” a 700-year-old Buddhist temple known for its ancient chedis and tunnels with original paintings from the Lanna Dynasty. The temple is also well known as Meditation Centre, located in the foothills of Doi Suthep where all meditators are invited to retreat and practice among peacefully natural surroundings. At the end of each tunnel is a statue of the Buddha with flowers and various other symbolic ornaments where visitors can kneel to pay their respect.  You can chat with the monk and learn about the introduction of meditation.

Continue to visit Wat Phra That Doi Suthep is one of northern Thailand\'s most sacred temples in Chiang Mai.The temple is a beautiful example of northern Thai architecture, reached via a 306-step staircase flanked by Naga (mythical sea serpents). A highly revered temple, containing a holy relic of the Lord Buddha. Spectacularly situated on a mountain top, at an altitude of 3,520 feet, with a magnificent view of the city in the evening & nighttime.

This evening, drop off all of you at Chiang Mai night Bazaar to experience Chiang Mai city by night.
